~ Animal Rescue… December… 1 Year Anniversary… Of Kauai’s Shelter Pet Transfer Program… mightydogshasta ~

This month marks the 1 year anniversary of our Pet Transfer Program. In the past year, we have transferred 248 animals to mainland shelters. Through this program, KHS animals have quickly found forever homes in more populated areas. Often, the animals we transfer are adopted within a day or two of arrival! We are so very grateful to Oregon Humane Society, Seattle Humane: The Humane Society for Seattle/King County, and East Bay SPCA for accepting our Kauai kids! The Pet Transfer Program is an amazing lifesaving program that gives KHS’ animals exposure to thousands more adopters than are on Kauai! Mahalo nui loa to all of you have supported this program monetarily and those who have volunteered to escort a dog on your flight. Also, a big thank you to our mainland volunteers who pick up a dog from the airport late at night, keep them overnight, and deliver them to the shelter in the morning. Lastly, a BIG mahalo to Alaska Airlines for being so supportive & working so well with KHS! It’s so moving to see so many animal lovers come together for this cause!

Kala, below is just one of the 248 animals transferred to a mainland shelter. He had spent four months at KHS, but was adopted within a week of arrival. His new mom is a librarian who takes Kala to work with her!

If you’d like to directly support our Pet Transfer Program, you may do so here: http://kauaihumane.org/donate/transferprogram. Also, we are always in need of pet carriers as they are shipped to the mainland with the dogs & they are listed on our Amazon Wish List. Mahalo for your support!
