One of our staff saw a yellow lab walking on asphalt at a festival this weekend. The owner was preoccupied with all the goings on, and the dog was exhibiting signs of hot feet: limping, refusing to walk, discomfort, picking up feet for long intervals.
Fortunately, the owner was happy to get his dog into the shade after this was pointed out, but this can happen to anyone! If you’re ever curious, take your bare foot and place it on the hot ground. Remember, dogs don’t wear shoes (well, usually…)
Burned feet can be serious. Here’s what to look out for:
-limping or refusing to walk
-licking or chewing at the feet
-pads darker in color
-missing part of pad
-blisters or redness
