Re advertising pets for free…
Yesterday I decided to check craigslist re lost/found animals from the northern California fires. My check was short lived when I came across someone “giving away” their beautiful white deaf bully breed/mix dog.
But today, I was glad to receive an email from someone who read my daily CL post/outreach “why you should never advertise and give your pets away for free” … http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/pet/5229074036.html …
He was looking for a guinea pig companion and emailed me this:
“Thanks for your post – found it while looking for a guinea pig to be my buddy. 🙂 Anyone capable and interested in keeping a well-loved pet will be able to pay a reasonable re-homing fee. I understand Craigslist’s decision to not allow pet sales, but I think it’s just as harmful to let people give them away for free.”
I’ve also in the past received an email protest about my post (probably someone who resells animals, or does something worse), and someone else gave feedback to how she reaches out in regards to this topic.
It is beyond upsetting and frustrating to see the ongoing backyard breeding of animals that vastly causes in high volumes the overpopulation and euthanasia of unwanted animals… in addition to puppy mills.
I hope for the day to come when backyard breeding and puppy mills become illegal and feel the need to do something to stop this injustice, even if it’s a simple daily post in craigslist.
Thanks for checking this out… Please share and spread the word -to do something to get to the core of the problem- Even if you thinks it’s too small, it all counts and helps build in volumes.
