We are exited to introduce our new Executive Director,
Penny Cistaro!

Kauai Humane Society is proud to introduce you to our new Executive Director, Penny Cistaro. Penny is coming to us from the Sacramento SPCA. She has over 38 years of animal welfare experience that was gained from working in a number of animal shelters across the country. Penny most recently has worked with the Sacramento SPCA and Sacramento Animal Care Services. Prior to that, she was the executive director for the Whatcom Humane Society in Bellingham, Washington. Penny started her career at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago and has worked for the Peninsula Humane Society, the Massachusetts SPCA and the Marin Humane Society.
Her vast experience includes animal care, adoptions, animal control and investigations, staff and volunteer training, program development and implementation as well creating and overseeing budgets. Penny is a nationally known speaker and has conducted workshops on stress management and adoption programs. She was a consultant to the HSUS with their Shelter Evaluation Program in which she helped shelters all over the US develop better policies and procedures. She has also worked with animal shelters to better meet the physical and emotional needs of the animals in their care.
Penny is bringing all of these gifts and talents along with her dog Morgan and two cats, Moonshine and Griffin, to serve the people and animals of Kauai. She was introduced by KHS Board President Orianna Skomoroch at our annual dinner on March 2, 2013 at the Marriott. Her first day of work is March 12, 2013. Welcome to Kauai Penny!
